The second edition of this double Cup, organised by CPBC and Gstaad BC, was again held in the best conditions with 8 pairs teams from Spanish clubs and 8 triples teams from Swiss clubs.
The successful and great event was accompanied by fantastic weather and the finest Swiss food - Olma sausages and raclette were served, which everyone enjoyed and made the event in southern Spain unique.

Visit of Iver Heath Buckinghamshire Bowls Club 20-24 April 2024
On the 24th April, our very good friends from Iver Heath BC arrived with fellow bowlers that wished to join them on their return visit to Calpe Promenade BC.
They came from Denham, Desborough, Maidenhead Town and Richings Park Bowls Clubs, and also a couple from Hucknall Titchfield Park BC, that were staying at the IFACH Hotel were invited to join in the competition held at CPBC.
The group came to CPBC on the Wednesday and those that were borrowing bowls, along with those that were trying the game for the first time, were given support by Pat Vaughan in selecting the correct bowls best suited to each individual, from our ample stock.
This was followed by a short trial of the bowls and try the rub and pace of our green, along with coaching for those that wanted it.
On Thursday, John Watts and his friends having selected teams for their Mixed Trips Competition to be held over 3 days (Thursday, Friday & Sunday) with a day off on Saturday for visiting around Calpe, such as our Outdoor Market, Port and Town Centre.
Everything started great on Thursday, 3 Rinks were utilised and Round 1 was completed of the competition. Friday saw Round 2 completed as Teams were playing in a Round Robin format and at went well again, just Round 3 to finish the competition off.
Everybody enjoying themselves with good spirit amongst the Teams and players who congregated at the Beer Gartden that is a part of Paraiso Mar complex.
Having completed 2 Rounds everybody was looking forward to a break on Saturday and returning back on Sunday, unfortunately the weather had the last say by constant rain made it impossible and unsafe to complete their competition.
Both Pat Vaughan and I went down to CPBC to be sure that it was not possible to continue. We then met up with our guests at the IFACH HOTEL, all were disappointed but stated how they all enjoyed their visit and said that they are looking forward to returning sometime in the near future.
Thank you all from all at CPBC for your visit and please feel welcome to return ASAP.
There were lots of photos taken throughout the enjoyable visit see below.

Barremman Bowling Club, Helensburgh, Scotland. Visit to the Costa Blanca 20th to 30th March 2024
Calpe Promenade Bowls Club Welcomed Barremman Bowls Club from Helensburgh Scotland to our beautiful green by the Mediterranean Sea between the 22nd March through to the 29th March. The week was jam-packed with scheduled events, each day something different was enjoyed by all players and spectators.
Wednesday saw the main event of the week where clubs from Bonalba, BBC (Benitachell BC) El Cid and Barremman BC participated in 4 games of 6 ends of mixed triples. The result was a win for the Bonalba paring of Majorie Parnham, Steve McNally and CPBC player Tony James as lead. In second place were the 2 guest players of Pauline and Nevil and the Flying Scotsman Kevin. The thrid place spot went to Elaine, Andy and Craig and all-Scottish team.
No doubt one of the hightights of the week was the lovely sound of the bagpipes played by Dave who on several ocassons entertained both players and spectators alike. He also deserves a mention for his Ukulele playng in Bar 78 with renditions of his own variety of Scottish ditties and songs. enjoyed by all!
<< Watch the Video of Dave on the bagpipes here >>
CPBC would like to thank everyone for their participation throughout the week. To those who worked hard to not only bring Barremman BC to our green. Special thanks go to Elaine & Don Greenshields in not only getting everyone a good deal in Barremman BC to Spain, including organising apartments, and of course the wonderful food and drinks for the open competion. Also Andy who orgarnised the selection and scroing over the 2 competitions and along with his assistant scorer Don did a grand job. Also Natasha & Grahame Spurrier who kindly helped us out with the numbers. Plus our friends from BBC (Benitachell BC) alongside El Cid & Bonalba, without whom the event would not have been so successful.
In the end our main aim is to encourage anybody and everybody to take up our beautiful game (ideally at CPBC) but elsewhere is fine too!
We look forward to hosting Barremman BC again in the future and strengthening our friendships and mutual love of the game.
If you visit the Calpe Promenande Bowls Club website you will find a wonderful selection of images taken during the weeks events along with a complete summary of the schedule and personal comments from CPBC President Tony James.

"Roll up ... Roll up ..."
"Roll Up...Roll Up"
Given our wonderful oceanfront location it is no wonder we attract many visitors and spectators interested in our wonderful sport. They come from all over the world, some are simply curious at what a group of "seasoned" individuals clad in white are doing walking up and down an immaculately groomed bowls green. Some decide to try for themselves the intricacies of this extremely popular game. Some simply enjoy the location and take pleasure at viewing a competitive but friendly atmosphere.
Above is a collage of people who decided to give it a go for themselves and enjoy some coaching from our team. The introduction and their obvious enjoyment gave us great pleasure, and we hope to see some of them again in the future.
Why not Come along in person to find out more about our welcoming club...ask about tuition if you are new to the bowling scene. Our "roll ups" are Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 09:30 - 12:00.
All are welcome!

Aussie Paris Open El Cid Bowls Club 5th and 6th June 2023
On Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th June El Cid Bowls Club held an Aussie Pairs competition, kindly sponsored by Home España. A full complement of 24 teams from all over the Northern Costa Blanca competed for very generous prize money, with cash envelopes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. After the recent rains we were treated to two days of beautiful sunny weather, and thanks must go to El Cid Country Club owner Ilya and his team for keeping everybody fed and watered for the two days. The matches were extremely competitive but played in the best of spirits, with the final results going down to the last round of matches. In first place, with 43 points and a shot difference of +20 were our good friends from Bonalba John and Belinda Archer. They were serenaded in to the winners circle by El Cid members chanting the theme tune of the Archers radio show, to the great amusement of their Bonalba colleagues. In second place were Javea pair Jeff Stevens and Mike Woodage, also with 43 points but a shot difference of +10. How they regret that drawn game in the 5th round! After an incredible final game Tony James and Pat Vaughan came from nowhere to snatch third place with 40 points and a shot difference of +19.
Thanks must also go to our umpire for the two days, Peter Morgan, Selma Blight for organizing the food orders and kitchen, and Paul Trunchion for his assistance overseeing the results compilation. All in all another very successful day for our club, onwards and upwards to our Direkt Optic 3-2-1 competition in October.

The Calpe Promenade Bowls Club Mixed Triples Open took place on Sunday March 20th 2022. This had been rescheduled due to weather conditions from the original date of March 6 2022.
